Peter Lindbergh

Peter Lindbergh, born Peter Brodbeck on November 23, 1944 in Leszno, is a German fashion photographer. He now lives in Paris, New York and Arles.

Lindbergh, although born in the Wartheland region of Poland, grew up in Duisburg in North Rhine-Westphalia situated at the confluence of the Rhine and Ruhr rivers near Düsseldorf, in Germany, together with his father, a candy vendor, his mother, a housewife, and two brothers. Lindbergh ist in zweiter Ehe und Vater von vier Söhnen.

After completing elementary school, he worked there as a window dresser for the Karstadt and Horten department store chains.

At the age of 18 he went to Switzerland, ten months later moving from Lucerne to Berlin, where he took evening classes at the Art Academy. Following in the footsteps of his model Vincent van Gogh, he hitchhiked to Arles. After several months in Arles, he traveled through Spain and Morocco for two years, before returning to Germany again.</ P>

Lindbergh began studying painting at the College of Fine Arts in Krefeld, North Rhine-Westphalia. During his first years of study he held the first exhibition of his work in 1969 at the Denise René / Hans Mayer gallery. But it was Conceptual Art that last influenced the final phase of his visual arts studies. But it is in 1971 when he takes photography as his means of expression and begins working for two years as an assistant to photographer Hans Lux in the city of Düsseldorf, later dedicating himself independently as an advertising photographer. </ P>

Subsequently moving to Paris in 1978 to concentrate on haute couture, he photographed various models including Christy Turlington, Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Cindy Crawford, Stephanie Seymour, Isabella Rossellini , Nastassja Kinski and Tatjana Patitz, as well as other projects with Karl Lagerfeld, Giorgio Armani and many more. Photographs of him have been published by magazines including Stern, Harper's Bazaar and Vogue.

He is considered one of the world's quintessential fashion photographers, especially in black and white, and is credited with helping create the supermodel phenomenon of fashion. 1990s. He prefers his model to have minimal makeup and a simple hairstyle. Wim Wenders is an admirer of his work.

Lindbergh is married in his second marriage and is the father of four children.
